This survey was conducted for the period 30 December 2019 to 5 April 2020 by GR.EC.A, the Hellenic Association of e-mails. Trade with the cooperation of BestPrice & Skroutz price comparison machines, Google and the eMarket Intelligence team of Convert Group. The data was obtained from 4.451 eshops with whom it cooperates Skroutz, from 2,116 eshops with whom it cooperates BestPrice and from millions of Google Maps location data, without processing any personal user data. All categories of services (such as air tickets, music, movies, subscriptions to games) and the category of purchases from online super markets have been excluded from the survey. It is worth noting that this is the first time in Greece that a survey is completed with such an expanded sample of online stores as well as the first time that the percentage change in expenditure in Euros for the online consumption of Greeks is calculated. In fact, the Greek Association el. Commerce was preceded by similar institutions worldwide by carrying out this research, even applying a methodology that is considered more accurate than consumer panels or scanned data of a limited sample of online stores.
The Chairman of the Board of GR.EC.A, Dr. Katerina Fraidaki said: After our preliminary investigation on March 18, where we captured the difficulties in the supply chain of e-shops and the justified negative psychology of some e-commerce entrepreneurs, we proceeded to an expanded survey to accurately capture the trends of Greek e-commerce in the last quarter. Product e-commerce in our country is growing rapidly, which is also observed in all foreign countries. Consumers are fast-tracking their purchases online, and entrepreneurs are investing more than ever in the e-commerce industry. Clearly we will all have to face the challenges that have emerged, especially those in the field of logistics and last mile delivery for the best consumer experience. GR.EC.A is committed to continue its initiatives on this axis as well.”
